Ex-Tottenham striker rips up ref's notebook!

Former Tottenham and Fulham forward Clint Dempsey was sent off during Seattle Sounders' US Open Cup defeat to Portland Timbers on Tuesday after he ripped up a referee's notebook in extra-time, reports the London Evening Standard.

The United States captain became the third Seattle player to be given his marching orders following Brad Evans' earlier red card when he reacted angrily to referee Daniel Radford sending off his teammate Michael Azira.

With the score 2-1 to the Timbers, Dempsey argued with Radford before he flicked the official's book out of his hands and onto the pitch, picked it up and then tore it up.

The incident resulted in Dempsey being shown his second yellow card of the night as defending US Open Cup champions Seattle were eliminated from the competition.
