Ex-Tottenham keeper Keller signs new Seattle Sounders contract

Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller has signed a new one-season contract.

Next season will be his 20th year of professional soccer. He played 17 seasons in Europe.

Despite his age, former Tottenham keeper Keller is enthusiastic about next season.

"In these two years with the Sounders, I've been very happy with the form of myself and the team," he said.

"Throw in the fact that Portland and Vancouver are coming into the league, and there was no question that I wanted to play one last season. My mind's great, my body feels great and so I feel this can be a great and successful season for the Sounders and myself."

Keller has been an MLS all-star both of his seasons with the Sounders. In 2010, he was second in the league in shutouts with 11 and third in wins with 14.

"Kasey only wanted to come back if he was playing at or near the top of his game," general manager Adrian Hanauer said. "He is still quick, still a great shot-stopper and a great organizer in the back. And as great as he has been on the field, he has been an even greater ambassador for Sounders FC and the game. We are happy to have him back with us in 2011."
