Ex-Tottenham defender King: Man Utd's Ferdinand again showing his quality

Ledley King has backed the England recall of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

The 34-year old centre-back has been selected by Roy Hodgson for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro with former Tottenham and Three Lions defender King applauding the decision.

"Rio's had a great season. Man United are top of the league at the moment," he told Sky Sports.

"It's good that he's been fit this season. He's played as many games as I can remember in recent years and that's made a big difference.

"You can see his quality. He's been as good as anyone, I suppose, this season."

Ferdinand last played for England against Switzerland in June 2011 but could return to the international scene when England meets San Marino in Serravalle on March 22.
