Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt feels Andre Villas-Boas is still learning the ropes.
Mabbutt still hasn't been won over by AVB this season.
He told Absolute Radio: "Last year there was a lot of talk about the disruption amongst the side because AVB was younger than some of the players, hadn't played at the highest level, was telling players how they should be playing the game and there was definitely problems with the players.
"When he went to the States this year pre-season, the first chance with the lads, there was a good understanding between the players and AVB. So of course AVB to me, I think he's an intelligent manager, whether or not he's got to make it work at Tottenham, Tottenham are very ambitious, they'll give him every opportunity to make it work but certainly I would say that some of the decisions he's made the fans have questioned. He played the two up front against Arsenal, that was working for 17 minutes and again as I say against Maribor it worked, so maybe he's learning all the time.
"But certainly he will have learned from the mistakes that he made, he's a young manager, a young intelligent manager, he must have learned from what happened at Chelsea, and if he doesn't right the wrongs that happened at Chelsea at Tottenham then he will struggle."
Mabbutt was speaking to Ian Wright of Absolute Radio Rock n' Roll Football. Every Saturday from 5pm on 1215AM. For more, visit absoluteradio.co.uk/football.
