Ex-Tottenham boss Redknapp full of praise for King

Ledley King today retired from the game after 14 years at the top and has been praised by many for his contributions to the Tottenham Football Club.

The 31-year old defender has been forced into retirement because of chronic knee problems which saw him have to carefully chose his matches as well as struggle to get onto the training pitch.

Someone who saw firsthand how badly King was affected by his injuries was former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp who was full of praise for the ex-England international - a player he believes was one of the best in his position.

"When he was at his best he was definitely one of the best centre halves in the world, no doubt about that," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"At the end of the season he was struggling, we were struggling at centre half, we had injuries, and maybe he played one or two games too many.

"It was difficult for him at the end and he wasn't the player we had at the start of the season even.

"It is only right he decided to retire now otherwise he would have ended up crippled and we don't want to see that."
