Ex-Tottenham boss Hoddle blasts Bent over Ramos moans

Former Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle has slammed Darren Bent for moaning about sacked coach Juande Ramos' lack of English.

Hoddle said: "If that was a problem then he should have knocked on the manager's door and said what he needed to say then.

"You can always have that excuse after the event."

Ramos spoke little English and used his assistant Guy Poyet as a translator. Hoddle believes clubs must realise the dangers of bringing in overseas managers whose English is poor.

He said: "There can be major advantages of bringing foreign managers. It's worked at certain clubs but it's important for them to be able to speak English. If there is a language barrier then the manager will never get across what he wants to the players. Communication is vital.

"People who want to bring in foreign managers must look at this or else it can set them back rather than take the club forward. You always have a change in motivation level when a new manager comes in. It happened when Ramos took over.

"The test is to keep the consistency going and I'm sure Harry is capable of doing that."
