Jermain Defoe is set to miss Toronto FC's final match of the 2014 MLS season.
The veteran English striker is unlikely to be available after re-injuring the groin that has restricted him to just 19 appearances in his debut season in North America.
This weekend, the Reds sign off at New England Revolution but head coach Greg Vanney says the former Tottenham star will not be present on the Gillette Stadium pitch.
"I don't think he'll be available for the weekend," Vanney told reporters at training Tuesday.
"He's in progressive treatment and rehab. I have not heard the latest from the report of the scan, but I don't think he's prepared to play."
Defoe, who has been linked with a Premier League return this winter, scored 11 goals for Toronto in his first campaign at the BMO Field following his February move from Spurs.
