Ex-Toronto FC youths Petrasso, Carreiro a 'breath of fresh air' at QPR

Former Toronto FC youngsters Mike Petrasso and Dylan Carreiro are beginning to flourish with QPR.

17-year old Petrasso and 18-year old Carreiro arrived at the academy of the West London club last summer and have both been strutting their stuff in the U18 and U21 teams since.

QPR U18 coach Steve Gallen says the pair have brought a freshness to the Harlington Sports Ground (the R's training centre) whilst the duo themselves are thoroughly enjoying their steep learning curve.

"They're two very good players who have really helped our academy team this year," Gallen told the Toronto Star.

"They're a breath of fresh air because they just love to play football. Over here the (local) boys have been sort of institutionalized and it can get a bit stale."

Carreiro said of the experience: "It's a lot more intense over here. They ask more from you. Technically it's not that different from Canada, but here it's more about the mental game."

Petrasso added further: "I wouldn't say the training is better, but the mentality is different. If you make a mistake over here players get on you; they keep pushing you and pushing you."
