Former Toronto FC head coach Chris Cummins has lashed out at the club's director of soccer, Mo Johnston.

Cummins, who left his post as interim coach at the end of last season, believes he did not get the support he needed from the top when quizzed about his demise from the job in an interview on Canadian sports channel The Score.

Cummins made a number of points, saying that Johnston interfered with team selection, had his preferred formation, constantly made Cummins late for training because of selection arguments, was involved in the controversy over the bonus payments the players were promised after a friendly with Real Madrid and changed his mind about who would take the reins following the sacking of John Caver during the season.

Cummins, who has since returned to his home town of Watford in England, said the club did not help him when he needed it most.

"In every club I've been at, you need to look up top, and you need to ask advice and get their help at times," Cummins said. "And I don't think I got that."
