Ex-Sydney FC boss Littbarski gets Wolfsburg assistant role

Inaugural Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski has been installed as the new assistant coach at German club Wolfsburg.

The German World Cup-winner has joined the coaching staff of Steve McLaren who last season led Dutch club FC Twente to their first title before joining Wolfsburg recently.

Littbarski has extensive coaching experience around the world including stints in Japan, Iran, Germany, Australia and Liechtenstein and was delighted to have signed a two-year deal back in the Bundesliga.

"It is a long-felt want to return into Bundesliga. After the talks with McClaren, I knew the chemistry is right. I hope I can contribute my soccer experience to accomplish the sportive objectives of Wolfsburg," said Littbarski.

McLaren added: "Pierre is the right man for this position with his extensive soccer experience."

Littbarski was the first coach of Sydney when the A-League started in 2005 and guided them to the opening title of the competition.
