Former Swiss Super League star Carlos Varela is believed to be on his way to MLS club DC United.

Despite the transfer window for players under contract closing, the window for free agents remains open and it appears that the 32-year old Spanish winger is head for Washington.

A report on Blik.ch suggested that Varela was set to join DC after finishing his contract with Neuchatel Xamax because he has 'had enough of playing in Switzerland'.

Varela has also played with Young Boys, FC Aarau, FC Basel and Servette FC during his career.
