Scott Donnelly is set to sign a deal with League Two club Aldershot Town.
The 24-year old midfielder, who has had knee problems of late, is a free agent after being released by Swansea City during the summer and is now on the verge of penning a contract with the Shots for whom he played between 2007 and 2010.
"It's taken a while to get things done, but I can't wait to get started and play some games again as it's been a while," Donnelly told skysports.com.
"Some clubs seem to have had an issue with the fact that I was injured last season, but nowadays a cruciate injury is something that players come back from and in fact more often than not they come back even stronger than before.
"[Mikel) Arteta did his cruciate, came back, and shortly after moved to one of the biggest clubs in the world (Arsenal ), [Phil] Jagielka also did his cruciate, came back, and established himself as a regular in the England squad, and I see no reason why I can't do the same and come back better than before, and I appreciate Dean Holdsworth having the faith in me and giving me that chance."
