Ex-Stoke, Derby winger Commons gutted after Celtic axe

Celtic winger Kris Commons admits he was shattered when left out of the starting line-up for last week's Old Firm derby with Rangers.

The former Stoke City, Nottingham Forest and Derby County man was set for the crunch match at Ibrox but at the last minute was kept on the bench as Neil Lennon opted for Joe Ledley instead.

Commons says it was a shame he did not get to start but insists he is not about to go sulking behind closed doors and is up for the Hoops' title fight.

"I was not furious but I was gutted. It is Rangers away - it is one of the games I love playing in," he said.

"To be on the bench was certainly disappointing. But I completely understand why he did it. And if the penalty goes in it is perfect tactics because we have worn them down.

"He told me when we arrived at the stadium. I'm not going to be big-headed or selfish or a prima donna.

"The gaffer makes these changes for the good of the team, and not for the good of the personnel."
