Former Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton is of firm belief that current day star Luka Modric can be the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes at Manchester United.
The 36-year old veteran retired from the game yesterday after a glittering career but his departure has sparked debate as to who United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will bring in as cover.
Immediately Modric's name has come to the forefront of similar discussions and Anderton says the reigning champions could do worse than look closely at the Croatian playmaker.
"When you see that Paul Scholes has retired, you think that Luka Modric would be the perfect player to replace him," Anderton said.
"Let's hope that for Tottenham's sake that isn't the case.
"I certainly hope he stays. For me, he has been Tottenham's best player. He is an incredible talent, a top player.
"I'm sure that many top teams will be looking at him."
