Former Tottenham fullback Pascal Chimbonda is chasing a move to Carlisle United.
New Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh played with Chimbonda at Wigan and at the Stadium of Light under Roy Keane.
He said: "I know what Pascal's like as a person and as a character. With his history and calibre, I'd be foolish not to have a look at him.
"We'll monitor him over the next week and see where he's at.
"If we can get him fit, and he can fit into the group in a positive manner, I'd like to have him on board.
"He's said all the right things and it's a case of us having a look at each other.
"He's not looked out of place in training and he was fitter than I expected him to be considering he hasn't played professionally for a while."
