Ex-Spurs boss Redknapp: Kane scored 4 goals in front of Arsenal scout Rowley

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed how he once feared Harry Kane would be ferried away by Arsenal.

Kane has exploded onto the scene over the past 12 months, with Redknapp conceding they weren't sure about the striker when he was in charge.

He recalled to the London Evening Standard: “I wouldn't say –yeah, we always knew he was going to be great. I wouldn't do that.

“But I remember another time when were playing a reserve game at training.

Arsenal's chief scout, Steve Rowley, asked if he could come and watch because they were looking at a Birmingham defender. They just wanted to check on his fitness. Harry scored four that day. Arsenal never signed the boy.

“We loaned him out a few times at Spurs. And then, when I was at QPR, I tried for two years running to get him. But it fell through both times at the last minute."
