Ex-Spurs boss Jol in frame for West Brom post

Sam Allardyce and Martin Jol have been mentioned as candidates for the vacant manager's job at West Bromwich Albion.

Roberto di Matteo was shown the door yesterday.

Michael Appleton, the first‑team coach, has been placed in temporary charge and he is among the early favourites alongside Sam Allardyce, Martin Jol, Derek McInnes, the St Johnstone manager and former West Bromwich player, and Sean O'Driscoll, who is in charge at Doncaster Rovers.

Chris Hughton and Alan Curbishley may also be of interest.
