Former Tottenham and Barcelona coach Terry Venables has returned to Spain to takeover a hotel.

El Tel now lives in rural Alicante with his wife Yvette and opened La Escondida last year.

He told the Mail on Sunday: "After buying La Esoncdida, we couldn't do anything with it for a while. I thought I was just going to be able to retire.

"After Euro '96 I went to Australia for a couple of years to manage the Socceroos, the Australian national team and then I managed a few other teams so the hotel project was always on the back burner.

"I even toyed with the idea of turning the property into a football academy. A football pitch was laid down and we planned to install state-of-the-art pitches. But in the end we decided to stick with Plan A and our soccer pitch was transformed into an outdoor pool."
