Ex-Southampton midfielder Griffit eyeing successful season with Columbus Crew

Former Southampton and Crystal Palace midfielder Leandre Griffit is looking to improve his performances with Columbus Crew this season.

The 26-year old Frenchman was re-signed to the club despite appearing just three times in 2010 (plus a handful of CONCACAF Champions League games), and is looking to turn back the clock to his Premier League days with the Saints.

"We talked during Christmas time and I knew before vacation I was going to be back," Griffit said. "I had to decide and I said I am going to have a break because I did not have any vacation for two years. For me, it was a tough year, too.

"Everybody knows what I did when I played (in the few Crew games)," he added. "I am an experienced player. I played in the Premier League, so it was tough for me when you're 25, 26 years old and you're not playing like it was a lack of trust."

And Griffit, who also counts Amiens, Leeds, Rotherham, Elfsborg, Norrkoping and URS centre as clubs he has played for professionally, is confident he can be a key contributor for Columbus this season provided he remains fully fit.

"This year is a different season, a new spirit and new young players," he said. "There's a new atmosphere. Everything is changing now. I am happy to be a part of it. I know I can score goals. I add something different from the players here. I just need to play and be fit and my game will improve."
