Ex-Southampton, Everton, Stoke striker Beattie released by Rangers

James Beattie was last night let go by Scottish champions Rangers after just one season with the club.

The 33-year old former Southampton, Everton and Sheffield United striker joined 'Gers from Stoke City last summer but managed less than ten appearances and spent time on loan with Blackpool last season.

Ally McCoist felt Beattie was surplus to requirements and gave him permission to leave Ibrox whilst young midfielders John Fleck and Kyle Hutton have both joined Sheffield United on loan.

"Rangers have done some last minute business in the transfer window with James Beattie leaving Ibrox and both John Fleck and Kyle Hutton going on loan," read a statement on the club's official website.

Further to that, utility man Andrew Little has headed to League Two Port Vale on a loan until January.
