Former Southampton boss Lawrie McMenemy wants to see current manager Mark Hughes remain in charge.
McMenemy, 81, wants his old club to stay in the top flight – and he wants Hughes to be given the job permanently.
He told the Daily Express: “Mark should stay. He has been the right appointment – the shame is that it was done not earlier.
“He is an old style manager, which is what they need. He won't take any nonsense. He has a terrific playing record and loads of experience.
“Yes of course the FA Cup is nice and it will bring back memories. But the priority has to be the league. You have to stay in the top flight. Financially it is big business.
“The nightmare would be if we were to do a Wigan and win the cup like they did in 2013 – and get relegated. Let's put the cup off until next year. That's how important it is.
“Yes, the FA Cup is still the biggest domestic cup in the world. I can remember how stunned I was in 1976 when they told me our final was going to be watched in every country in the world."
