Former Scotland forward Joe Jordan believes young gun Jordan Rhodes is capable of helping the current team qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
The 22-year old Huddersfield Town ace scored his first international goal in a 3-1 friendly win over Australia in Edinburgh on Wednesday night and Jordan feels he can take the next step and provide good competition for Scottish strike veteran Kenny Miller in upcoming WC qualifiers.
"That goal did wonders for Rhodes' confidence - it will have convinced him he can compete at senior level," the former Tottenham assistant told Record Sport.
"It's important the manager has more than one player to select from.
"I don't mean that just from the point of view that you want competition for places but the fact you can't just depend on one player. Men get injured, you might want to change during a game or you're in a competition where you might have three games in 10 days for example.
"So the emergence of Rhodes can only be a good thing. To be introduced at that level in the first place is great and then to score must give him a great deal of satisfaction and belief he can play and cope with the demands."
