Ex-Scotland boss Roxburgh named New York Red Bulls sporting director

The New York Red Bulls have announced the appointment of Andy Roxburgh as their new Sporting Director with immediate effect.

Roxburgh is the former national team manager of Scotland and technical director of UEFA (the European football confederation). He will be responsible for all soccer activities at the club.

Roxburgh commented, "I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity by Dietrich Mateschitz to contribute to the development of such an outstanding soccer organization, as the New York Red Bulls. I'm also delighted to be getting involved in Major League Soccer, which has an impressive reputation as a fast growing and highly competitive league."

Global Sporting Director of Red Bull Soccer, Gerard Houllier said, "I am thrilled to have Andy on board. To have someone of Andy's caliber and experience shows the strength of our commitment to make the New York Red Bulls one of the best franchises in U.S. Soccer."
