Former AS Roma director Gian Paolo Montali feels his old club gaffed getting rid of coach Vincenzo Montella.

Montella has worked wonders with little Catania this season, while Roma have struggled under Luis Enrique.

"I asked Roma to give him a chance when we were looking for a Claudio Ranieri replacement," Montali said.

"There are times when you need the courage to try new ideas and I think it was the correct decision.

"I advised Roma to keep hold of him for this season too, but a different solution was opted for."
