Former Premier League ref Howard Webb says Manchester United's equaliser against Liverpool yesterday should not have stood.
James Milner's first-half penalty gave Liverpool the lead in yesterday's clash at Old Trafford. But Manchester United levelled late on as Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed home to secure a 1-1 draw.
Webb says assistant referee Mick McDonough was out of position and failed to see Antonio Valencia was offside.
"Because he [McDonough] is too far down the touchline, he cannot judge whether Antonio Valencia is just offside before he receives the ball, which he is," Webb told The Times.
“In those circumstances, he gives the benefit of the doubt to the attacker.
“He will have known he lost his position at a crucial time."
