Ex-ref Poll blasts Liverpool boss Rodgers over Mason "Greater Manchester" claims

Former Premier League ref Graham Poll has slammed Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers over his reaction to defeat to Manchester City.

Poll wrote in the Daily Mail: "Should Lee Mason have been refereeing Thursday night's match? Absolutely. Referees complete a form each season and on it, they declare any allegiance to a football team.

"It could be that they support them, used to be a member or their partner or close family's association means they don't feel they can referee any team impartially.

"They will never referee that team or one of their immediate rivals, i.e. a Manchester City fan would not officiate a Manchester United game either.

So for Brendan Rodgers to bemoan a referee from Bolton officiating a Manchester team smacks of sour grapes and should result in an FA charge.

"I thought that Rodgers was a more considered manager than that, but perhaps a whiff of recent success has affected his attitude."
