Former Premier League ref Mar Halsey says Chelsea striker Diego Costa is unfairly treated by match officials.

Costa's combative style has made him a controversial figure on these shores but Halsey is adamant that decisions have not gone the forward's way when they should have done.

“He doesn't get what he deserves out of referees," he told You-Are-The-Ref.Com.

There has been occasions this season where he has deserved penalties and he hasn't got them, maybe because of the way he goes down.

“He is very difficult to referee but you relish it and players relish playing against him, perhaps that's why he hasn't been as effective this year because he is trying to curve his bad side."
