Ex-Reading winger Convey tips Man Utd's Hernandez to kick on

San Jose Earthquakes winger Bobby Convey is confident that Manchester United young gun Javier Hernandez can avoid the 'second year blues'.

The 22-year old Mexican enjoyed a brilliant debut season with the Red Devils after joining from Chivas Guadalajara last summer but there are fears he may fall into the trap of not producing as much in his second season as opposition clubs work him out.

But Convey, who spent about five years with Reading before returning to the USA in 2009, says that 'Chicharito' can kick on and do even better than the 20 goals provided in his freshman year in the English Premier League.

"Since he did so well initially, people will notice him more now," Convey said ahead of United's clash with the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday night.

"But it is not like it takes a whole season for teams to get used to opposition players. They figure it out pretty quickly.

"Last season, he proved he can score goals. He makes great runs and holds the ball up well. He is going to be a very good player."

And Convey expects there to be a very strong crowd at Red Bull Arena as many Mexican fans will want to see the country's new hero in action.

"There are a lot of Mexican-American people in the States," said Convey.

"Mexico are almost more popular than the US players because soccer is the main sport there.

"He is already a superstar in Mexico and England. As he plays more games American people will take notice.

"Last year in the All-Star game he probably got the loudest cheer of anyone.

"In Mexico, any player that stands out for the national team, they really get behind. The population really want Mexico to do well."
