Jason Culina has lodged a grievance with Football Federation Australia for $1.7million.
The former Ajax, FC Twente, PSV Eindhoven and Gold Coast United midfielder is suing FFA for allegedly not ensuring he was insured when he went to Newcastle Jets.
Culina sustained a career-threatening knee injury whilst playing for Australia in January which he aggravated during pre-season for the Jets and it has emerged that he had never been insured to play in the A-League.
"We would encourage all parties in this matter to respect the player's privacy and wait for due process to occur.""FFA can confirm that a grievance notice has been lodged, but we will not make any public comment on the merits of the claim," an FFA spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.
