Ex-Preston skipper Gregan: Man Utd players never gave Moyes chance

Former Preston North End skipper Sean Gregan is convinced Manchester United's players were determined for David Moyes to fail.

Gregan was Moyes' captain for four hugely successful years at Deepdale.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "I think he never really had a chance there because the players probably looked at him and thought, 'We're not having this guy'.

"He went there having not won any major trophies as a manager and they probably thought, 'How can you improve us?'

"At Preston he was great at getting 20 per cent extra out of his players because they weren't top players. But when they are already the finished article, it's harder.

"I've played hundreds of games at every level and I've been in plenty of dressing rooms where the players have turned against the manager.

"Usually when that happens the players get their own way and it's the manager who's out. But I think the players have let him down.

"If the club had given him time to build his own team I, think you would have seen a very different United, attacking it hard next season."
