Ex-Prem ref Gallagher backs Crystal Palace star Zaha protests

Former Premier League referee Dermott Gallagher believes Wilfried Zaha shouldn't have been penalised for diving against Watford.

The Crystal Palace striker said yesterday that he believed their was an agenda against him after he was shown a yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh, having gone down in the box following a challenge from Hornets defender Adrian Mariappa.

"I have sympathy with the referee Chris Kavanagh, but I don't understand why he books him for a dive," Gallagher said on Sky Sports.

"He may not see it as a foul – and I do see it as a foul – but I definitely don't think it is a dive.

"It's not a massive amount of bookings, and somebody has got to be top of the pile!

"I don't think it was a dive."
