Nadir Ciftci is hoping to resurrect his international career with Turkey by winning a move to Dundee United.
The 21-year old Dutch-born Turkish striker was close to a call-up when Guus Hiddink was in charge of the national team in 2010 but a clerical error denied him the chance to make his debut.
Ciftci, who has played with Portsmouth, Kayserispor and NAC Breda, is training with the Terrors and hoping he can clinch a move to Tannadice this summer in order to force his way back into the Turkey setup.
"Hiddink called me up. He had watched me for Portsmouth and wanted to give me a cap. I didn't have a Turkish passport, only a Dutch one," he told the Daily Record.
"The paperwork was to be sent to Holland but went to London instead. That was unlucky but I hope I'll get to play for Turkey one day.
"It was frustrating because at the age of 18 playing for your country is the biggest dream you have.
"Just knowing Hiddink rated me was a huge boost. I'm still that player and if I sign for United I can still play for Turkey."
