Former Portsmouth and Wigan defender Arjan de Zeeuw believes Dutch star Wesley Sneijder can make a splash in the Premier League with Manchester United.

The 26-year old Inter Milan midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and his 40-year old countryman is confident it would be a great deal for both parties if it was to come to fruition.

"If United sign him he'd be a fantastic asset. The thought of him playing just behind Wayne Rooney is great," de Zeeuw said.

"I can see why people compare him to Scholes in his younger days but Wes can strike a ball equally well with either foot.

"I remember playing against Scholesy and if he was on the edge of the box you'd at least try and get him on his left, which wasn't quite as strong.

"But Sneijder can hit it just as well with both and that's a huge asset for any footballer to have."
