Former Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock is in the frame for the Sheffield Wednesday job.
The Daily Mail says he heads a five-man shortlist.
It is believed owner Milan Mandaric is in no doubt that the seven-times promotion-winner is the best available man for the job.
Mandaric's only reservation has been on whether the reaction of Wednesday fans to the prospect of a former Sheffield United boss, and a lifelong Blade, taking charge would backfire on him. But the majority of Owls supporters appear to be coming out in favour of Warnock.
