Ex-Oldham, Blackpool striker Vernon eager to remain with Aberdeen

Scott Vernon insists he is looking to prolong his stay with Aberdeen after helping the Pittodrie club clinch the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.

The 30-year old English striker was on target from the penalty spot in the 4-2 shootout triumph over Inverness at Celtic Park giving the Dons their first piece of silverware in 19 years.

In the wake of the triumph, former Oldham Athletic, Blackpool and Colchester United forward Vernon was hopeful of extending his stay with Aberdeen as his contract gets set to expire this summer.

"Definitely, I want to stay at Aberdeen," he said.

"The gaffer (Derek McInnes) is trying to do something here at Aberdeen.

"He is implementing what he wants and everybody in the dressing room desperately wants to be a part of that. I am no different.

"We will see how it goes between now and the end of the season. We are all professionals and we will keep trying to finish second and to try and win the Scottish Cup as well."

Aberdeen currently sit 24 points behind runaway league leaders Celtic but are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals where they take on St Johnstone on April 13.
