Former New York Cosmos star Giorgio Chinaglia has signed on as the renaissance club's International Ambassador.

The Italian striker won four North American Soccer League titles with the Cosmos back in the 1970s and 80s thanks to his prolific goalscoring ability and is now returning to the club as they strive to gain entry into Major League Soccer.

The US Soccer Hall of Fame inductee said he was delighted to again be involved with the club he has so many fond memories of.

"It was over 30 years ago when I first came to this club. To see it come back for our loyal fans of the past, as well as for the next generation of fans, is very exciting to me,'' said Chinaglia.

"The New York Cosmos name resonates all over the world and I look forward to being involved to bring back the excitement of American soccer."
