Dom Dwyer is enjoying his pre-season with Sporting Kansas City after he was taken in the MLS SuperDraft last month.
The 21-year old former Norwich City youth academy and University of South Florida forward was selected with pick number 16 by SKC and it proved to be a shrewd choice when he scored a hat-trick against FC Tucson in a 5-1 in a recent pre-season game.
Dwyer admitted it was nice to get the opportunity to score and now plans to kick on and repay the faith shown by head coach Peter Vermes and his staff.
"They had faith in me picking me in the first round, so I had to pay them back for that and prove that I'm worth it.
"Hopefully, I can help the team succeed.""It felt good just to get on the score sheet," Dwyer told the Kansas City Star. "Once you get that first one, it's always easier and I was glad to get that behind me.
And Vermes said he was looking for Dwyer to continue developing after a very good start to his time at the club.
"Dom is a little Sherman tank. The guy's a bull, which is different than the other forwards we have.
"It's more the kind of goals he scored that was so good to see. Two of the three were very opportunistic. The other, he was strong and he turned and then accelerated with a good move by the defender.
"That's what we saw from him (in college) and what we liked about him.""He's still got a long way to go, but he has the qualities that it takes and he gives us a little different look than our other guys up top," Vermes said.
