Out-of-work former North Queensland Fury coach Franz Straka has put his hand up for the vacant Melbourne Victory post. The Czech tactician is out of a job after the Townsville club were pulled out of the A-League by Football Federation Australia but feels he could do a great job with the Victory who sacked Ernie Merrick just a week or so ago.

"I would make Melbourne Victory a great team once again," he told The World Game.

"Of course I want to coach such a club as Melbourne Victory. They are a big club with a strong roster and many fans.

"I am confident that I would do the job in Melbourne because I will bring to the club all my European experience and know-how.

"I think Victory could do with a different and more European style of play."

Straka coached the Fury in the 2010/11 season and at times had them playing a great brand of attacking football but at the end of the day, the weight of financial uncertainty was too much as a lot of players went elsewhere to look for more secure contracts.

He said it was a shame that the club had to be scrapped but insists he still has plenty to offer the Australian game.

"The problems off the field were a very unique experience for me but I think the team did reasonably well considering the uncertainty surrounding the club," he added.

"I'm just sorry that I was not able to finish the job I started at Fury and not show all my capabilities as a coach.

"I would love to stay in Australia and provide more assistance in a coaching capacity."
