Ex-Newcastle, Wolves striker Cort excited about Tampa Bay Rowdies stay

Carl Cort is determined to remain injury-free and get his career back on track with Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The 34-year old English-born Guyana international striker finds himself in the North American Soccer League after a career almost exclusively spent in the UK.

Cort, who has played previously with Wimbledon, Newcastle United, Wolves, Leicester City, Marbella, Norwich City and more recently Brentford, says he is keen to get over injuries that have plagued him during his career and play some consistent football in Tampa Bay.

"I think people don't understand how bad (the injuries) were. They were pretty serious," he told the Tampa Bay Times.

"Playing in the UK, there's a lot more pressure, pressure to come back and perform and to perform well. And being out for such a long period of time … you have to build your confidence as well as get your fitness, and it's difficult.

"I think coming here was perfect for me," Cort added. "I can get my head down, work hard and hopefully add something to the team."
