Steve Watson is confident Newcastle United will be okay this season.

The Wallsend Boys Club product was part of the fantastic Entertainers team constructed by Kevin Keegan that finished third in their first season back in the big time in 1994.

Watson told the Evening Chronicle: "I look at it as a Geordie and Newcastle fan now.

"I'm not part of the club any more, so I can afford to be a bit more romantic about it.

"But I think mid-table would not be beyond the reach of the current team - or even higher.

"I know the lads are very grounded about it.

"I was with them for Steve Harper's golf day and they are all talking about survival."
