Former Newcastle United star Faustino Asprilla has been arrested after allegedly opening fire on a security checkpoint near his farm with a machine gun.
The privately-run post was hit by 29 bullets, but no one was hurt.
Its owners claim the star reacted violently when a guard refused to let his three female friends and a bodyguard pass.
Asprilla, who denies the charges, said: "Seven people who were with me have not yet testified so it's a bit premature for me to be convicted."
Asprilla has played in Italy, Brazil and Argentina and featured in two World Cups for Colombia. Since retiring, he has taken part in reality TV shows.
