Former Newcastle United and Southampton striker Nile Ranger has been arrested.
The Mirror reports Ranger was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage on a Liverpool taxi on Sunday morning.
The 22-year-old is being questioned by officers after allegedly damaging the vehicle, after a row with a taxi driver in the city centre at around 6am.
The striker, who now plays for League One side Swindon Town, had his contract cancelled by Newcastle United last year.
A Merseyside Police spokesman told the Liverpool Echo: "Merseyside Police has arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of causing criminal damage following an incident in a taxi this morning.
"The man, from Middlesex, was arrested after damaging a taxi during an argument with the taxi driver in Water Street, Liverpool city centre at about 6am this morning.
