Ex-Newcastle skipper Martin: Pop Robson deserved Kinnear job

Former Newcastle United captain Mick Martin laments a missed opportunity for club owner Mike Ashley.

Martin says Ashley should've gone for former Toon midfielder Pop Robson as his director of football ahead of Joe Kinnear. Robson has just been released from Sunderland as chief scout.

He told the Daily Star: "I played with Joe at international level for three or four years and got to know him quite well.

"Joe has experience but he has antagonised the fans and they can't associate with him.''
