Former Newcastle United and Leeds United midfielder Lee Bowyer has urged today's young players to mix with the right people.
Bowyer was asked by the Evening Chronicle what advice he could offer the present day player.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "You have Twitter and Facebook now which wasn't around when I played - it makes me sound old but the social media it can be dangerous.
"You have to mix with the right people and look after yourself. Don't take advantage of things because the career is over very quickly.
"You think it's not but it soon flies by.
"People told me that because it goes quick and I thought: 'I've got forever'. But they were right because it goes so quick."
