Ex-Newcastle, Leeds defender O'Brien implores Vancouver Whitecaps to work harder

Vancouver Whitecaps defender Andy O'Brien wants his teammates to toil harder, especially when playing on the road.

The Canadian club saluted in their first two matches of the 2013 MLS season - both at home - but have dropped their past two away from BC Place and O'Brien wants more hard work and focus to make up for being away from the comforts of home.

"I think that's the minimum (effort expected)," O'Brien said.

"You can misplace passes and things like that, and can have an off day but there's no substitute for hard work, and it starts on the training ground. Then hopefully you take that into the game when it matters."

The Whitecaps are away again this weekend as they prepare to arrest their road woes when they take on San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium.
