Ex-Newcastle Jets striker Jeffers close to Motherwell deal

Francis Jeffers is on the verge of joining Scottish Premier League side Motherwell according to reports.

The 30-year old Englishman, who was recently a hit in his nine games for Newcastle Jets, has returned to the UK and looks set to join the Steelmen as a free agent.

The former Everton and Arsenal man has had mixed fortunes since he imposed himself on the Premier League scene back in the late 1990s, having spells with Charlton Athletic, Scottish giants Rangers, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

He arrived in Australia in November last year for a ten-match guest stint with the Jets and was adored by fans and teammates alike during his short stay and even though he wanted to remain at the club, they could not offer more than another short-term deal.

Jeffers returned to England in early January and it is now likely he will be in action for Stuart McCall's 'Well who sit eighth on the SPL table.
