John Carver could be handed the Sheffield United job full time.
Former Newcastle United and Toronto FC coach Carver has taken charge on a caretaker basis after Gary Speed left Bramall Lane for the Wales job.
Former Hull chief Phil Brown and ex-Blade Paul Peschisolido are favourites for the job.
But Bramall Lane chief executive Trevor Birch revealed: "I am not ruling John out of the reckoning."
