Ex-Newcastle chief Jimenez wanted by Tottenham to replace Comolli

Former Newcastle United chief Tony Jimenez is being linked with a role at Tottenham.

The People says Spurs hope to strengthen Juande Ramos' position as manager by appointing his ally Tony Jimenez to the White Hart Lane board.

Jimenez, who brokered the deal to take Ramos to Spurs last year, quit his job as Newcastle's player recruitment chief this week and has been lined up to replace the north London club's sporting director Damien Comolli.

Spurs are negotiating Comolli's exit after his disastrous recruiting of players including Darren Bent, Younes Kaboul and Kevin Boateng.

Jimenez, a long-term associate of chairman Daniel Levy, will take over many of the Frenchman's responsibilities - although he will have a different job title.
