Ex-Newcastle boss Hughton favourite for West Brom job after talks

Chris Hughton is emerging as favourite for the job at West Bromwich Albion.

The Daily Mail says Hughton is closing in on the vacant manager's job at West Bromwich Albion after Roy Hodgson decided against a quick return to football.

Former Newcastle United boss Hughton has held talks with Albion owner Jeremy Peace.

Caretaker boss Michael Appleton will take charge for Saturday's vital relegation battle against West Ham and there will undoubtedly be a role for him within the coaching staff, possibly as Hughton's assistant.

Appleton is highly regarded as a coach and has worked his way through almost every department at the club and will be kept on as part of the deal that sees Hughton arrive.
