He has been handed his first starts since then in the past two games â€“ and rewarded that show of faith by inspiring back-to-back wins over Colchester and Carlisle.
The 22-year-old is confident he can maintain that form and take responsibility for helping Steve Davis's side to League One safety.
"I'm thankful the gaffer has put me in the team and for everything he's done for me," he told The Sentinel
"I feel more fit and everything. I want to put everything behind me and push on.
"Crewe did a lot for me last season and I feel like I still have to repay them. The fans have been great with me as well. They stuck by me with everything's that's gone on.
"It's good to help the team with assists, and I'm sure that when we start winning the goals will come too."
